Deliveroo 2025 report highlights rise of Belfast bakery among UK trending dishes
The Deliveroo 100 Report for 2025 spotlights Dougies Goodies, a Belfast bakery, as one of the UK’s top trending dishes, reflecting evolving consumer tastes and the platform's expanding role in diverse culinary and shopping habits.
Deliveroo’s annual ‘Deliveroo 100 Report’ for 2025 has once again highlighted the dynamic and diverse nature of delivery trends across the UK and globally, with a notable spotlight on a Belfast bakery that has risen to prominence on the UK charts. Dougies Goodies, a renowned Ballymena bakery now operating in Belfast and supplying retailers countrywide, earned recognition with its Iced Layer Cake securing the 19th spot among the top 30 trending dishes in the UK for 2025. This achievement places Dougies Goodies alongside established food brands such as Wagamama, Dishoom, Wholefoods, and Wingstop, underscoring the bakery’s rising popularity and the growing consumer appetite for high-quality, speciality baked goods delivered through platforms like Deliveroo.
The Deliveroo 100 Report, which captures the most popular and fastest-growing delivery items across nine countries, also revealed fascinating insights into the impact of cultural events on food ordering habits in Ireland. For instance, following Oasis's sold-out concert at Croke Park in August, there was a surge in orders of comfort foods such as spice bags, wraps, burgers, and pita wraps. Similarly, after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final in July, when Kerry triumphed over Donegal, Deliveroo saw a notable rise in orders for Irish favourites like cheeseburgers, burrito bowls, and classic spice bags. These patterns illustrate how significant social and cultural moments continue to drive spikes in particular food delivery choices.
Beyond local culinary highlights, the report also positions the UK as a key player in global food trends. London-based Papo's Bagels topped the global list with their ‘Classic’ smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, which combines traditional elements including sliced red onion, tomatoes, and capers. This bagel has outpaced orders from major chains and international brands, reflecting a broader trend of consumers appreciating authentic, locally-rooted cuisine. The UK featured prominently with 16 items on the global trending list, encompassing a broad spectrum from smash burgers to health-conscious fare such as seamoss gel and matcha lattes, as well as trending items like tacos and smoothies. This diversity signals the evolving tastes of British consumers, increasingly inclined towards a mix of indulgence and wellness in their food choices.
Manchester, too, claimed a significant place on the national delivery stage, with Jason’s Sourdough Bread from Morrisons in Manchester ranking fourth on the UK trending list. This further confirms a move towards specialist and artisan offerings alongside traditional takeaway favourites. The trend in the UK appears to be shifting towards fresh, build-your-own dishes and salad-focused options, catering to consumers’ growing preference for customised and health-conscious meals.
Deliveroo’s report also sheds light on the expansion of the platform’s non-food offerings, which are growing rapidly as customers seek convenience beyond meals. Items such as face masks, perfumes, jewellery, candles, and even practical goods like paint rollers and charging cables have seen significant increases in demand. Notably, jewellery purchases peaked in the week of Valentine’s Day, signalling a trend for last-minute luxury gifts, while face masks spiked in June, likely linked to summer events and preparations. This diversification reflects Deliveroo’s strategy to be a versatile service meeting various consumer needs promptly.
Additionally, Ireland cements its reputation as a burger hub, with Dublin’s Dash Double Smash burger ranking fifth globally among trending orders. Other Irish dishes like the Half & Half burrito from Dublin’s Tula, Pitt Bros Bacon and Cheese from Cork, and Benny’s Burger Deal from Galway also featured on the global list, illustrating the strength and appeal of Irish culinary exports in the international delivery market.
Deliveroo’s UK and Ireland Director, Helen Maher, emphasised the platform’s broad appeal, noting that Deliveroo caters to "every need", whether for a celebratory meal post-concert or an emergency ingredient delivery for a last-minute bake-off. Deliveroo Vice President of Regional Growth Jeff Wemyss highlighted the platform’s commitment to convenience and consumer trends, observing that independent restaurants continue to thrive alongside major chains on the platform, and that the evolving shopping habits of users are driving growth in non-food segments.
In summary, the 2025 Deliveroo 100 Report paints a richly textured picture of modern dining and shopping habits, from the surge of interest in regional specialist foods like Dougies Goodies’ Iced Layer Cake to the sustained popularity of iconic offerings like Papo’s Bagels. It reveals a UK food landscape that is vibrant, eclectic, and increasingly influenced by health trends, cultural moments, and the convenience economy.
